Project Background: When the war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022 a group of legal and legal tech experts wanted to help immediately. In this uncertain, traumatic situation people should be well informed and legally secure as they make their way to and through Europe. Within a few days the legal platform Immigration4Ukraine was launched with easy-to-understand legal information and lawyer matching, as well as Quick Legal Aid Guides on social media channels. The platform combines traditional pro bono with the capabilities and tools of modern legal services. Some of the project’s initiators — Jolanda Rose, Maria Petrat, Iryna Artiushenko, Caroline Kothe, Baltasar Cevc and Felix Hoffmann – will continue to be involved in an advisory capacity.
Since April 2022 the platform is managed by UPJ in cooperation with Pro Bono Deutschland. This cooperation guarantees long-term stability through networking with non-profit organisations, political actors and connections to a comprehensive network of committed law firms. The project continues to be supported by pro bono lawyers, law firms, IT specialists, students and project volunteers, who provide their expertise.
